@arstechnica the solution is simple - throw your still-working computer in the garbage and buy a new one.

...and end up with yet another problem when trying to fix the problem...

When trying to enroll in ESU and using the same MS account I've had since I created it for use with Visual Studio 6 - that BTW, I purchased at full price in 1999.

Now... how, _exactly_, am I supposed to correct this fresh new hell.

I can't get to a point where I can change anything to swap accounts or to get this crap 'corrected'.

"Sign out of everything" via the web won't allow entering a new login acct!

On-screen popup presented when trying to enroll in ESU...

It reads:

"Enroll in Extended Security Updates

Use another account to enroll in Extended
Security Updates

An adult needs to sign in to this device and enroll in Extended Security Updates."
