Duolingo really is coming apart at the seams since they went all in on replacing their staff with "AI":

1300+ days into the Spanish course, it started expecting using the vosotros forms as only valid answers for questions today - out of the blue and despite never once having taught those at all. Quality teaching, right there.馃憣

@davidgerard I wish, that would at least be useful to me 馃ぃ but so far they went for the good ol' US-American approach of bulldozing over all diversity in favor of a "neutral" Spanish, using tu/usted/ustedes.

@gedankenstuecke i think it's specifically Mexican/US Spanish? Luis von Ahn is even from Guatemala which uses vos

@davidgerard ah, no. They somewhere on their website say that they aim for a "neutral" variant (or a least used to). Which made sense when they literally had one course they offered. But today it's just shameful to not move beyond that, probably were too busy adding Latin or Klingon or so - well, or firing all of their staff!

@davidgerard luckily most folks don't mind hearing tu instead of vos. Of course there's some Argentinians with hyperinflated egos who'll be mortally offended, but it's a good way to spot knobheads :D

@mdione oh, I'm pretty sure they also already fully replaced any humans that maybe did the voice acting/reading. The pronunciation (and "voices" of the characters are all over the place).

Not to mention that the app itself has also gotten more and more buggy, so I'd not be surprise if all edits there are now also vibecoded 馃槀

@gedankenstuecke hmm, not sure if they would find more Spaniard or Mexican dubbers... so maybe you can escape from being compared to a Spaniard pronunciation?

@mdione i mean, in any case I go to individual Spanish clases locally here, learning proper Cordob茅s 馃槈 I mostly keep going with Duolingo as it's a an additional way to build vocabulary.
