Today in the classroom:

First year chem fell apart on yesterday's test. Like, badly. We're going to have some hard conversations today in class about what needs to happen to get back on track, especially athletes who need to remain eligible. Everyone retests on Thursday.

Second year had a rough review day, so they also had some hard conversations about how to prepare for difficult tests. They get grace, we'll do one more review day and test tomorrow.

That's too bad. What were their problems areas?

@npub147fp2j606qpfysp38phhzvempt7ewsdqwm6uww9uycp6tdvavu0s5paq44 We're doing inorganic nomenclature. On the test, it was neutral ionic compound formulas and using covalent prefixes in the wrong places.

Bigger than that, it was the lack of prep work I saw from two classes in particular. So, there are other issues I need to deal with today in class.

It's fine - this test is always a little rough, this was was just more pronounced than I anticipated.
