Just like the "Tax cuts" in the previous election, the media's unquestioning coverage of an LNG terminal as "saving millions of dollars" is irresponsible at best.

How is it cheaper to depend on LNG than renewable local energy? What is your source? Have you checked? Do any independent experts support this view?

Media fails us by carrying this narrative without questioning it.

@pezmico I don’t think that’s an entirely fair criticism in this case. All the articles I’ve read in Newsroom and RNZ are very clear the government’s own studies showed LNG should be the last resort and that renewables were not even considered as an option.

@Salty the headlines frame it as savings though. And many people won't read the full article. At least a "government claims" could make a difference.
