1. “Expert” posts LLM generated article on LinkedIn that is full of subtle and not so subtle falsehoods.
2. Other “experts” comment positively, boost, like, subscribe.
3. I come in, spot the falsehoods (not that hard), and feel hurt and sad that we're fine with not even an approximation of reality.
I always feel unsure about how to respond (it's misinfo on something I work on and care about). Or whether not responding is best (probably). Asking if it was an LLM feels rude (it was unlabeled).
I really don't want to take away other people's “productivity” tools, or be a downer, but I'd like it to be known that however happy it makes them, it's a time and energy waster for others at the same time.
@hdv being outspoken but polite / constructive works for me. Sometimes people are not aware of the drawbacks. Sometimes explaining the drawbacks makes them reconsider future use, sometimes they don't care. With individuals I leave it at this.
With organizations I'm more tenacious especially with civic/civil society especially if this behaviour is opposed to their goals or mission statements.
In the end saying nothing will certainly not change a thing, whereas speaking out might change things.
