They actually filmed a Star Trek/Police Academy crossover movie?
@cstross wasn't that Spaceballs?
@cstross Worse, they made a Star Trek series that is Harry Potter or Gossip Girl with the serial numbers filed off.
@cstross OTHER
Star Trek movies are barely worth watching, if there is nothing else on the telly. Police Academy movies weren't, even when I was a drunk young man.
I don't think this is a crossover that would play out as well as Hollywood hopes.
Besides, wouldn't the attitudes of Police Academy result in immediate cashiering from the Federation, let alone Starfleet?
@cstross Love would be a strong term. It's amusing but I find some of the characters are particularly annoying whiny teenagers. Also a curiously emotional Vulcan student. That said this is when the Vulcans & the Romulans have unified so maybe not so strict about that.
@cstross If it was actually that I might even give it a go. Just the once...
It's turned out to be entertaining. Two things to note, and they're not spoilers, but provide background that you really won't know unless you watched "ST: Discovery".
1. This is about 800 years after ST:TOS.
2. There was an event called "The Burn" where ships actively using dilithium went BOOM. This led to the balkanization of space, including the reduction of power projection by Starfleet.
@cstross Unfortunately not, because a movie about wacky cops, helping a very serious, no nonsense time traveling star ship crew re-populate whales in the future, by distracting all those shady government science guys on their trail with crazy antics, would be just too perfect.
@cstross I won't even consider content from Kurtzman. That man couldn't find decent writing with a map and a guide. What he's done to Star Trek is a crime against art.
@cstross Now that's a crossover I'd like to see.
@cstross it was bold and refreshing move to make the Klingon the whacky one that does all the sound effects
@cstross Stop watching tv.
@Thumptastic3 I don't watch TV/films, but thanks to you, I'll keep an eye open for this one.
@cstross lol! I thought peeps would get a kick out of my comment.
@cstross Watched the first episode as it was free on Youtube. It's okay, but not good enough to get a Paramound Plus subscription just for that. I'll watch the rest of it when Strange New Worlds has a new season up.
