Welcome! You are invited to join a meeting: Encryption and Feminism: Reimagining Child Safety Without Surveillance. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the meeting.

Too often, the public debate around encryption and child safety is framed as a zero-sum game: privacy or protection, never both. This framing misunderstands the technology and reinforces outdated power structures that position surveillance as the only way to protect children. In this session hosted by Internet Exchange and Chayn, feminist technologists and digital rights advocates reframe encryption and child safety through a feminist lens. This is a re-run of our MozFest session, featuring speakers including Chayn’s Hera Hussain, Superbloom’s Georgia Bullen, Courage Everywhere’s Lucy Purdon, UNICEF’s Gerda Binder, and IX’s Mallory Knodel. Facilitated by Ramma Shahid Cheema and Audrey Hingle. We’ll explore how encryption aligns with feminist values and how digital infrastructures can protect vulnerable communities without surveillance. The session includes extended time for audience Q+A, along with in-session and audience polling.
