Soooo... y'all out there, tell me if you've played around with Zulip and how that's gone?

Just discovered it exists. I'm very intrigued, because I've wanted a "back room" sort of space for small group collaboration that did not involve yet another Discord or Slack instance.

@johannab I love it for things that have topics, i hate it for just chatting and getting to know people. (Like it’s great for discussing moderation, cause you can have a new topic for each report, but also see all the past reports without having to dig through old threads or intermixed chats. But it feels really awkard for just saying “hi, how’s everyone doing today?”)

@ansate Nice feedback, thank you.

So that sort of space is kinda what I want, actually. I'm looking for small team workspace options, possibly even ephemeral, that are exactly about running the back-office stuff for an admin or moderation team - things you cannot ~really~ do well "on" Mastodon or similar, but kinda need, like hacking away at your governance or server update workflows or yeah, the moderation & report management.

Neither Discourse nor Mattermost have really clicked for me.

@johannab Awesome! Do give it a try then! You can have topics in separate channels, and you can lock down who has access to each channel if needed. Search is good.
