lol its still so stupid that ppl in the tech industry didn't want to unionize when they had all the power

@emaytch I guess it's interesting to hear from some of the replies that yes, unions tried to form but the union-forming leaders weren't all that great at actually getting it formed, and the tech leadership's HR knew how to quell it quickly (you can hire external consultants that will kill unions)
@atax1a@infosec.exchange @emaytch @nyankat i was approached by twitter union organizers after declaring in the internal safety channel that the twitter comms team was engaging in emotional manipulation to avoid answering for their statement that talking about trump in the hospital would get you banned. so it's curious and in fact completely unbelievable to me that anyone would have problems with not being "nice"
I was in the discord early on for offering specific advice, and they specifically excluded @atax1a and other firebrands for optics and supposed opsec. Soon after, one of the core organizers told his literal manager he was organizing and got grilled by HR 🤦♀️ Unserious effort that spent more energy handringing than mobilizing.
@hipsterelectron obviously i wasn't involved so i can't really know the details or which person is right, but there was talk over a long enough period of time that it seems plausible for there to have been multiple attempts at organizing, with different levels of success
@atax1a i'm sure everyone appreciated how nice their layoff notices ended up being 😌
@emaytch we have one of these guys on the record as saying he'd rather organize unions with nice nazis than with mean alexes, so, i think that just about sums it up
@atax1a that is certainly an opinion!
@emaytch people seem to develop and air extremely normal opinions about us!
@emaytch anyway, despite whatever the guy downthread is saying, we are in active contact with multiple ex-twitter people who can recount shambolic tales:
one of the core organizers was concerned about opsec and was being very exclusive and then nervously told his manager during his 1:1 that he was organizing a union, who promptly arranged a meeting with HR
and
excluding people because they weren’t “nice enough” definitely happened. a few of us were very vocal about what bullshit it was.
[Alice] and I each said some variation of “are we having a dinner party or trying to take on one of the richest guys in the world? the fuck is wrong with all of you”
and
they reached out to me asking if i wanted to join. on work slack.
