Today I wrote about the racist accommodation to the racist response to Bad Bunny's Super Bowl show; the moral hazard of extending good faith to those who act in bad faith; and how alienating white bigots is actually part of the solution, not a part of the problem. https://www.the-reframe.com/hating-the-game/

The Reframe

Hating the Game

The cooperation game, the murder game, and acting in good faith with people you know are acting in bad faith.

@JuliusGoat This is an interesting post, and I agree with the coop vs murder game aspect. But if Bad Bunny was chosen just to alienate, then how does that convince bigots to stop being bigots? They鈥檒l think their paranoia is being affirmed and that they should strive even harder to be terrible. How is the half time show actually educational for them?

@JuliusGoat @woltiv I think you may be missing the point. You don't stop bigots being bigots. You make being a bigot socially costly. You make palling around with bigots unpopular with people who might otherwise associate with bigots.

This is cynical, fatalistic, and incredibly antisocial.

For a start, your core premise is wrong. People can and do stop being bigoted. I've seen this myself. Daryl Davis has proven it many times. There are many other examples.

Your plan to cut people away from the non-bigoted portion of their social network just gets in people like Davis doing their work. It's also profoundly counterproductive, because it leaves people with bigoted views in an echo chamber, totally dependent on each other for support. Cutting off any way they might exposed to non-bigoted views or distance themselves from bigoted social network.

The conservative-to-facsist pipeline exists, but "antifascism" like this pushes people down it.
