Luanti tutorial update: synchronizing W for forward + space for jumping is a little difficult for five year old, using mouse for pointing is coming along but still a work in progress. But the kid figured out that to mine we have to hold mouse button, rather than click repeatedly, before I did 😂
We've progressed onto Minetest.
In the process of looking up recipes, and where to find the resources, I had the realization that Minecraft is called that because you get stuff from mines and then craft other stuff with it. About 15 years late on that.
Kid was initially reluctant to go into caves so this will be a bit difficult. Maybe they can be convinced now that I've learned how torches work...
Kid still doesn't like caves and mines. So it's nice that we have other stuff to do: we built a bed (wood for now), started growing cotton and blueberries and wheat, and just now made a boat. The player character sitting on the boat is really cute!
One of my favourite things about Minecraft and adjacent games is they're teaching Canadian kids the proper meaning of "furnace"
@jarek this whole thread is charming
(I've been introducing my sister to Minecraft, if your feed isn't too busy you can see the posts on the #Minecraft hashtag)
