I just finished #Pluribus and found it a very thoughtful exploration of humanity, loneliness, love, and individualism vs a collective hive mind.

The series asks its audience to consider questions in ways I rarely experience at a time when so many programs feel like more of the same.

I recommend watching and am interested to hear what others think.

@Sheril I looked from a neurodivergent perspective on it, and in a weird way related to the hive minders. If the world was run by neurodivergents it would be run like this, based on doing what is best without reference to ego or status or history. Obviously without the linked minds stuff, just the practical hands on everyone helps make it better thing.

@Sheril
I absolutely loved Pluribus and the nonpareil Rhea Seehorn's performance in it.
It's very Vince Gilligan, so expect your expectations to be confounded.
It's probably not going to be for everyone, but if you like it, you'll like it a lot.
Challenging, entertaing, and I don't want to say much more lest I accidentally share spoilers.

@Sheril Pluribus is much more ambitious than the usual science fiction tv show, for sure. It's interesting how the collective expresses itself, how it tries to appeal to Carol, and what it hides from her, while also being transparent about its ultimate objective. If you want to read a perspective from way out in left (or maybe middle-left) field, Howard Chaykin mentions Pluribus in a recent essay/vitriolic attack on millennials: https://howardchaykin.substack.com/p/tomorrow-belongs-to-me

TOMORROW BELONGS TO ME.

But not to you. And forget about it, you.

@Sheril I love love love the complaints that the heroine is unlikeable, because the whole point (to me) is that the average human, someone who might really be a rare immune case, is most likely going to be someone unlikeable to a majority of people because *most of us are unlikeable to a majority of people*.

@Sheril To me it felt like a zombie movie where I kinda liked the zombies and kinda hated the hero.

@Sheril I loved it too. The pace of some of the episodes conveyed the isolation very well, and the contrast between those pursuing their egotism and those pursuing the common good was great food for thought as to how to handle such a situation.

@Sheril there are a number of tricky moral and ethical issues that the show tackles well. It doesn’t claim to know the answers, but shows the conflict.

@Sheril very much reminded me of the ending of evangelion. Anime nerd lore, in case you’re unfamiliar with it

@Sheril

I can’t say I *enjoyed* the first season, but it has some depth and explores some serious issues, as you say. I appreciate it. The execution is excellent and the writing sharp, I just find the main characters so unlikable and the events stressful.
