Feasting on the salty tears of my enemies (the mining lobby and their frustrated reckless extraction plans).

For over a decade the community, experts and iwi alike, have opposed this project in every court available, through every single stage of the process. It has been rejected over and over again. Every single time.

The fast track lowered the bar for it to go through and even then it could not clear it.
It sucks, plain and simple.

Take a hint Alan Eggers, haere atu.

The TTR Taranaki seabed mining project may be on its way to the rubbish bin, but the next goal is an explicit, outright ban on seabed mining.

Let the whales, dolphins, penguins and multitude of creatures thrive in peace.

Let the iwi and hapū look after their rohe.

Let families catch fish to feed themselves.

Let responsible tourism enjoy the wonders of natural life there.

And if you absolutely have to have some kind of industry, make it an offshore wind farm, in a limited, clearly defined area of the region.

That is an important step in the energy transition to a carbon free economy, creating jobs that do not depend on exploitation of the environment and the inevitable boom and bust cycles of mining with the ensuing environmental devastation it leaves behind.

@pezmico Offshore wind platforms create much-needed habitat and contribute to species diversity. Yet another reason that clean energy is the only way forward.
