Native Americans in #Canada 🇨🇦 are taking Alberta separatist talks seriously.

👉🏾 First Nations suing #Alberta government over ‘unconstitutional’ separatism petition https://youtu.be/XlqgkCFqpFg

I believe Alberta will obtain over 178,000 legit signatures that will allow them to vote for an exit of Canada 🇨🇦. If Alberta votes to exit Canada 🇨🇦, the most pushback I am hearing is “discussions of liabilities” which is insane. Any other nation would be sending troops to the region & preparing for war.

@darnell So what about the referendum which got more signatures first and faster to stay in Canada? How come that never got as much coverage.

@Auli Yeah, I think they were ignored by the media but they did not seek a referendum. https://youtu.be/7szMqzGWGDI

Fortunately they are mobilizing to crush the separatists if separation is on the ballot. They are confident they will win in the polls. https://forever-canadian.ca/

@darnell I thought their whole point was to get a referendum before the separatists.

@Auli I think it was a “show of strength” type of move. If the separatists only obtain the bare minimum (178,000 signatures), then they will probably lose at the polls.

I believe the Separatists are trying to obtain over one million signatures in order to prove momentum is on their side.

@darnell the same thing happened in 1995 in Quebec ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995_Quebec_referendum ) with a 49% vote to separate.

Canada is pretty chill about these things. At least with Quebec they’d be responsible for taking on a portion of our national debt etc. the biggest annoyance would be transportation through the new nation

@waffles Yeah, I was a kid when Quebec held elections for independence & thankfully the voices to remain in Canada 🇨🇦 won out.

Unsurprisingly, there is another push for an independence vote by 2030: https://www.policymagazine.ca/who-can-prevent-a-third-quebec-referendum/

Who Can Prevent a Third Quebec Referendum?

Much has been written recently about the possibility of independence referendums in both Alberta and Quebec, a situation that has triggered legitimate worries
