I've been allowed a bit of artistic licence with youngests birthday cake (although under instruction not to go OTT with decoration), so have opted for a cheeky Valencian orange cake with candied peel. Which I think sounds terrific, but we'll see how it comes out!

I will never work with fondant icing again. It is a bastard.
If you want your cake to look like something else and you don't care how it tastes, let me tell you about a thing called "sculpture."

Fun fact! The only time I've ever gotten really properly actually angry and threw a whole cake across a room was because of fondant icing. I was about hour 5 into the process and just snapped, then had to start all over again and finally finished the cake about 4 in the morning. I swore then on my LIFE I would never use fondant icing ever again and if I ever see some, know I am mentally telling it to go fuck itself.
