Social media platforms are generally OK while they are ad free and subscription free. Once one of those two is added they become insufferable. Bluesky is sort of OK at the moment but the only really good platform isn't a platform: it's the Fediverse.

@anon_opin I'm not condoning the crap pulled by big tech, but how exactly do you think the infrastructure etc would be paid for if there was no subscription or ads exactly? Facebook etc aren't connecting people from the goodness of their heart....
Atm fediverse services seem to be run by nerds and people who agree with this ethos and not because they want to become millionaires.
At some point, services will probably need to be covered somehow.
