There's a new wellness trend, people! (I know you only follow me because I'm so plugged into the zeitgeist and know about all of the new trends like a motherflippin' influencer)

It is, of course, taking a shower in the dark. AKA 'dark shower'. Why? I don't fuckn know I couldn't be bothered to read it what a load of old nonsense who is reading this shit stop taking showers in the dark you utter lunatics.

How can a ‘dark shower’ be good for your mental health?

While there’s no strong scientific research on the health benefits of a dark shower

@TheBreadmonkey I do have to admire the wonderous and clever ways the internet just comes up with new and wonderous ways to get dumbass humans to kill themselves. from eating tide pods to selfies while hanging off cliff edges, trends of photography on railway lines to gender reveals utilising levels of pyrokenetics usually associated with carpet bombing.
and now, you know what, not enough people die in showers, lets turn off the lights.. yeah.. honest its good for you.

@TheBreadmonkey I don't know how real this apparent trend is, but as someone whom has fallen in a well-illuminated shower, smacking my head and hip and cracking a rib, I think this is a remarkably foolish idea.

@TheBreadmonkey a shower in the dark may or may not be good for ones mental health but I would think the shattered hip and concussion are definitely going to have their thumb on the other side of the scales.

@TheBreadmonkey I bathe in the dark.

I was going to go on, but that sounds quite metal, like the opposite of sun bathing, so I'm leaving without further elucidation. Other than this, damnit...

@pikesley extreme flashback, wow. This, along with the full cast recording of The Importance of Being Earnest with Edith Evans that my mum used to play in the car when she drove me to school, and The Goon Show, which I somehow found and used to listen to to fall asleep, is basically how I learned English when I moved to the UK as a 6 year old.

... typing that out and on reflection, that might explain quite a lot about me.

@TheBreadmonkey I don't take a shower in the dark, but this time of year I will usually take one in very limited light. I hate turning the bathroom light on, it's far too bright, so this morning I showered quite happily in the civil twilight coming through the window.

@TheBreadmonkey a bold move there to open by admitting there's no evidence that this helps with anything. I assume this is some running competition among journalists to see who can convince their readers to do the weirdest shit just because they tell them to

Well there's a new thing going round. It's called yoghurt hair. For wellness and mental health you just put a load of yoghurt in your hair. It was devised in deepest Peru by a yoghurt Shamen who's been doing this for 3 years and reckons they're now immortal. Is there any scientific evidence? No.

@TheBreadmonkey

There are restaurants where people eat in the dark, supposedly to enhance the taste of their food, but also to show what it is like to be blind. Aside from the blind aspect, I suspect this is only good for helping those wishing to diet.

And, how do you find a dropped soap in the dark shower?

@TheBreadmonkey So, it says there's no research and no data, but people believe something. Reminds me of some people I work with: 'you have your numbers but I trust what my colleagues who are telling me this instead ', and then there's the metaphorical fall in the shower. Or, in this case, an actual fall.
