Last Sunday, I spoke with a politician who is a DSA reference. She argued that most politicians don't leave X because journalists seek information about them there, and some have built strong followings. She gave this answer in front of hundreds of people at FOSDEM.
I went to the hallway to give her the "Leave X" letter that I wrote to European politicians over a year ago. At first, she refused to take it because she said she was too old to read such small text. I asked her to give some to her colleagues, but she refused.
She said that she RESPECTS her colleagues who decide to stay. Journalists *call* her when they want to know about DSA. I think that if she weren't a reference on this topic, she wouldn't have left.
Now, she is in discussions to get a EuroSky. It's clear to me what will happen next.
P. S. As I learned 20 years ago from a fellow journalist who covers politics in Brazil: politicians are needy beings who like attention. In Europe, not much changes.
