Just a reminder that if you like my writing on Substack, it’s very likely that you will also like my book ‘Drystone - A Life Rebuilt’

If you buy it on bookshop.org you support me and indy bookshops.

@kristiedegaris
I went to bookshop.org’s U.S. site, and the only option is “pre-order.” I don’t know how these things work, but I thought it had been in print for a while now, and available to others outside the U.K. Should I “pre-order” or is there a better way to buy it?

@mcmullin Morning! You know I'm not sure, my publisher Birlinn will send it but I am sure shipping is extortionate. If not ebook?

Drystone

Kristie De Garis spent years running – from places, people and parts of herself. But chaos always followed. When she moved to rural Scotland, she hoped to find peace. Instead, in the space and silence, she was forced to confront everything she had tried to escape: racism, trauma, undiagnosed ADHD, addiction and the stark realities [...]

I personally do not like anyone's writing on substack, as that is still a platform which funds Nazis. There are other options.

@zaivala This, to me, feels so reductive and only half a thought. I was on Ghost, it cost me money to write for free. I cannot afford to pay for platforms where I share my writing for free. And what platform is without issues?

Wouldn't you rather be on a platform with issues than a platform with Nazis? Substack has done nothing to reduce their exposure, in fact they doubled down. I am sorry that Ghost charges you, but that can't be the only other platform.

@zaivala I've looked around. Ghost was the best by far, but as I said they charge you per number of subscribers monthly. Other options also charged. There are Nazis everywhere, shitty, deeply harmful opinions on every single platform. I'd rather my writing was out there, that my persepctive as a mixed-race, chronically ill woman who understands how these systems hurt us all was out there.
