So-called #AI literally kills the joy of watching videos of people doing stunning things and of marvelling at breath-taking photos because you focus on finding out whether it’s a generative fake or not.

@christianschwaegerl Why I'm thankful for people I follow on here who I know post their own photos and videos! That still gives me joy.
@christianschwaegerl I wish people would focus on using those systems for making things that are really hard to make otherwise, like absurd dada animations where people pull telephones out of their noses and turn into penguins.

@christianschwaegerl I can't even enjoy cute dog videos anymore and it sucks.
@christianschwaegerl This is a minor inconvenience in comparison to watching the news. What and who can we still trust with #AI?
@Dadmin Yes, it’s part of a wider issue, absolutely – potential corruption or derealisation of any media format. Take the Minnesota ICE killings – videos from witnesses could be altered in hundreds of small ways and used to flood the zone and destroy the legitimacy of the original. I’m surprised this hasn’t happened already. In armed conflicts, altered videos or recordings could be used to escalate. Every secret document journalists uncover can be called AI-generated…
@Dadmin That makes journalistic institutions which are trained in publishing only authenticated information even more important. Unfortunately AI might drain traffic and income away from journalism organisations…
everything working as intended.
Yes, I had that yesterday. Reduced joy of watching the howling parakeet and dog puppy video.
@knud @christianschwaegerl that one was AI, wasn't it?
@vicgrinberg @christianschwaegerl
I don't know. It felt like it. But I don't think that's the problem. The problem is that is simply takes the joy, because I start doubting nice things.
@knud @vicgrinberg And that’s so pervasive that the impact is huge.
@vicgrinberg @knud I’ve just watched a video of the stunning performance of a yo-yo master, but my brain kept scanning the audience reactions for repetitive patterns.
@christianschwaegerl @knud it keeps happening to me, too...
