@ferngirl fun fact. Spongiophyton, one of the oldest known lichens, played a critical role in life on our planet. About 410 million years ago its existence prepared soil and surrounding environments for vascular plants.

@ferngirl right‽ I learned it recently on a documentary. I found it compelling, so I had to press pause to go look it up. It has something to do with how it stirs up dirt, basically.
To think that had this one little organism not thrived, we may not even exist. Given the chain of events.
