@podfeet do not fear the heel. there are many different heel options, so choose the ine you find least intimidating. maybe fish lips kiss heel?
@Lena245 One of the reasons I'm terrified is that the very helpful #knitting community keeps offering me heel options. Since I've never done a heel at all, I have no idea how it works, so no criteria on which to judge a good or bad heel. I'm a paint-by-numbers kind of person, so I never color outside the lines and adapt patterns. I follow the rules!
@podfeet
There are many options not because they are bad, but because people like to experiment. If you want to knit your heel without havento pick up stitches, the fish lips kiss heel (or similar works nicely).
If you don't mind picking up stitches, then a heel flap style would be a good experience for you.
As someone suggested, you can try a different style on each sock if you want.
The process is not as scary as you have been led to believe.
@podfeet IMHO there are no good or bad heels in general, but there are differences in how they fit your specific feet. Wide or narrow heel, low or high arches. Try one and if it’s not quite good for your feet try another one next time. After a while you’ll find ‘your’ heel.
@podfeet look at you go!
@podfeet I remember my grandmother knitting socks for all the grandkids, we never had to guess our birthday presents😉

Yes, achievement unlocked.
Just remember: it's just knit and purl, everything is just knit and purl. You'll manage the heel.
@FanCityKnits that calms me!
