I have made FIRE! After literally months of trial and error and getting advice from the #knitting community, I have succeeded in knitting in a circle. In theory it’s going to be a sock. But I’m afraid of the heel. Cat included in photo as per regulations.

@podfeet do not fear the heel. there are many different heel options, so choose the ine you find least intimidating. maybe fish lips kiss heel?

@Lena245 One of the reasons I'm terrified is that the very helpful #knitting community keeps offering me heel options. Since I've never done a heel at all, I have no idea how it works, so no criteria on which to judge a good or bad heel. I'm a paint-by-numbers kind of person, so I never color outside the lines and adapt patterns. I follow the rules!

@podfeet @Lena245 There is nothing wrong with following the rules. I do that. And I am not even up to socks. I am just doing dishcloths. But I make sure my pattern is written out, row by row, and stick to it, no changes. I will get to socks eventually, because I want to. Just ... not yet.

@podfeet
also, put in a lifeline so that if you get lost, make a mistake, or don't like that method, you can rip it out and try again.

@Lena245 That's genius! I am sure I will need a lifeline and it will give me courage. Do you pull it through with a crochet hook?

@podfeet @Lena245 I use a needle and pull it through each stitch, but there's probably lots of ways. I know, I am not her, just telling my way of doing it.

There are many options not because they are bad, but because people like to experiment. If you want to knit your heel without havento pick up stitches, the fish lips kiss heel (or similar works nicely).
If you don't mind picking up stitches, then a heel flap style would be a good experience for you.
As someone suggested, you can try a different style on each sock if you want.
The process is not as scary as you have been led to believe.

@podfeet IMHO there are no good or bad heels in general, but there are differences in how they fit your specific feet. Wide or narrow heel, low or high arches. Try one and if it’s not quite good for your feet try another one next time. After a while you’ll find ‘your’ heel.

you'll be fine. it'll be fine. Just choose the one with the funniest name and try that one.
You'll never know until you try.

Yes, achievement unlocked.

Just remember: it's just knit and purl, everything is just knit and purl. You'll manage the heel.
