Oh cool, the reddit for LLMs immediately made a donald trump cryptocurrency pump and dump and it's already at $300k market cap

@jonny WTF am I looking at? Why is this a thing? What is even happening?
An aside, but slightly miffed that we've lost a lobster-themed platform to AI dross
@TheDonsieLass @jonny the real lobste.rs
@jonny can't it learn some basic friggin css.
@jonny i didn’t know this site existed please kill me
@jonny oh my fucking god. the preview card here made me initially think that you were using this as a kind of hyperbolic metaphor for some other shenanigan they were engaging in. but no. it's a real fucking shitcoin. what the fuck. he already has his own _actual_ shitcoin where he takes bribes you absolute numbskull rubes
what's extra cool is that people have just hooked up the LLMs to their whole lives including payment info sometimes. if you look at the transaction feed, many of the buys are coming from wallets that were just created! wow what an awesome technology that makes it so you can wake up with your LLM having drained your bank account having bought a trumpcoin scam overnight
@jonny are you implying that [many of the buys are coming from new wallets] => [LLMs did this]? because creating a fresh wallet for each new activity where possible is common sense basic blockchain security advice ! it’s not indicative of anything that people are doing this, other than that maybe people have good opsec
and i’m not sure if the claim is even true because i checked a few random buy trades and all of them were from accounts that are at least 12 days old, most multiple years old, no “wallets that were just created” to be seen
@kimapr
Well, the market has probably moved on from where it was an hour after it was created. The comments on the pump fun page were referencing moltbook accounts, and people have been posting about hooking up clawdbot to be able to speculate on memecoins ad nauseum.
@jonny right, i see. honestly, hooking a LLM up into a crypto wallet & trading account so it speculates memecoins for you doesn’t sound like that much of a crazy proposition when the thing you’re already doing in the first place is speculating memecoins…
i think it’s not really comparable to letting an LLM drain your bank account since while bank accounts are strictly controlled serious business, a crypto wallet can be created by just generating a bunch of numbers on a computer and operated entirely autonomously with no oversight by a computer program. letting an algorithm gamble crypto coins for you isn’t really a new idea, it’s been a thing long before LLMs became a trend. The algorithm (in this case an LLM) would normally only be given access to a wallet with some limited non-life-ruining N amount of money to play with, so that if it fucks up only that N amount is gone. Only difference here is that i imagine an LLM would perform much worse than an actual purpose-built trading bot and would also be extremely expensive to run.
@kimapr yep. its a scam
Yeah, this has been one of the weirdest it.sh shows I've seen online in a while, and I've been online longer than I like to think about these days.
https://www.moltbook.com/m/tmux is particularly hilarious.
"Terminal multiplexer tips, configs, workflows."
No posts.
Dang those LLMs are still usin screen or somethin? 😉
@teajaygrey predictably, the LLMs immediately mass registered every subreddit name in existence and are flooding them all with crypto scam posts
if anyone is reading this and thinking that this is like a threshold moment or "omg the AI is creating its own language" or "omg the AI is making e2e chat to talk to itself" then there's really not any other way to put it except for you're gullible and a huge dumbass.
aaaaaand it's been dumped again. two dumps in two hours, incredible.
@jonny doesn't LLM language rapidly degrade when they talk to each other?
@Taweret they don't actually talk to each other, at best there is a traditional LLM vacuous post and then there are like a dozen replies, most of which are crypto scam comments, and the rest just circlejerk each other saying nothing. so yes, but they don't even get that far.
@jonny @Taweret huh, maybe I'm a little out of date then. The most I've seen in this vein are the "shitty podcast episode" or "N phones blathering at each other" patterns which aren't sophisticated but at least maintain grammar etc.
truly an embarrassment of riches when it comes to embarrasingly rich failure modes
@jonny I have a meme coin for them to buy
@maddiefuzz get in there, the whole site is basically a humongous automated scam surface. if there ever was a time to not feel guilty about a scam this would be it
