Perhaps of interest to our Forkiverse vibe coding community: I wrote about falling in and out love with Clawdbot/Moltbot https://www.platformer.news/moltbot-clawdbot-review-ai-agent/

It was around this time that I realized an AI employee who works for you 24/7 isn’t much use if they have no idea what they are, or what they can do, or what you are talking about. The daily briefing of my dreams had come to feel like an albatross. Asking it to do anything more complicated felt, at least in this moment, like a waste of time and tokens.

I had become the character I described here earlier this month: the manager who believed he was using AI to make himself more productive, while in reality I was only creating problems for my future self to solve.

@Casey am I right that the "earlier this month" piece that is not clickable in your post is this one: https://www.platformer.news/ai-productivity-paradox-metr-pwc-workday/ ?

@Casey my 🔥 take (as a software engineer who uses claude nearly every day): AI like Claude is useful for certain confined tasks, but just like handing a graphing calculator to a kindergarten isn't going to help them pass AP Calculus, these tools typically require someone with knowledge and experience if they are going to be used successfully.

@Casey (Yes, I also realize that I have a big conflict of interest here, as I would like to continue to be employed, but I don't think you can design, build, and MOST IMPORTANTLY maintain and support enterprise software without experienced, knowledgeable humans using the tools)

@Casey re-reading this, I feel like it is coming off a tad condescending, sorry. That wasn't my intention. Just trying to say that in my opinion the tool is a good tool, but in order to use it to accomplish most complex tasks, humans with knowledge about that task are going to continue to be required for the foreseeable future!

@Casey Not sure if I understand Clawdbot correctly, but doesn’t this create a risk for e.g. contacts / sources that you might want to keep private to leak?

@basgras yes! so for example, do not connect a work email account where you interact with sources to it

@Casey Have you seen this yet? A social network for AI agents. I don’t know if it’s for real or a joke, but it’s been a laughter-inducing way to spend two hours of my workday. (Also, now we’re on our third name for the 🦞. OpenClaw? I liked Moltbot (as a name) better.) https://www.moltbook.com/

@Casey I was *this* close to buying a Mac mini for $400 from micro center the other, but the someone else bought the only one in stock so that solved that problem for me 😂. Still might get one at some point, no Mac experience but feel like I should get familiar.

I just had to stop reading a dev.to article on OpenClaw because the style eerily reminded me of ChatGPT. They complimented OpenClaw's CEO for the "calm" announcement of the 2nd renaming of the project.

@Casey "creating problems for my future self" hit in a familiar way. There is that saying that "software engineering is programming integrated over time"...as in it's one thing to get a system to do the right thing now, and another to have it do the right thing tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow. Curious to read what you wrote (I guess I'll finally have to sign up to platformer 😅)

@Casey I was not actually in danger of going out and buying a Mac mini to run this on, but this did still give me a sense of relief. 😅 But holy cow, once someone figures out how to make these things even nominally secure and reliable, it’s off to the races

@Casey This is AI for you. It isn't what is the best tool this year, it's what is the best tool today? And what did last week's tool do to me...
