@0xIO32 @bondolo when you resort to PDF it means you have failed to share information in an open way.

@Julianoe @0xIO32 @bondolo

PDF is an open spec and PDF-A is designed specifically for archiving, with a fixed set of features. Other than plain UTF-8 text, I can’t think of a better format for sharing structured text (certainly not HTML after it moved to a ‘rolling release, who knows WTF this doc actually is’ format). I’d agree if we’re talking about machine-readable structured data.

@david_chisnall @Julianoe @0xIO32 @bondolo Saying PDF is better than HTML is fighting words in these parts. Absolutely batshit take.

@david_chisnall @0xIO32 @bondolo in theory. In practice most PDF out there are not done well.
I don't see how a PDF is better than a Html or epub (which is essentially html) 🤔

@Julianoe @0xIO32 @bondolo

ePub is at least versioned, but it’s not essentially HTML. The ePub spec prior to 3 used XHTML 1. It now uses a bespoke projection of a subset of HTML 5 into XML.
