@JasonAnthonyGuy @daringfireball @gruber He's saying he considers the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti to be more outrageous than that of George Floyd. John, I think that's a misfire in an otherwise great post. The George Floyd killing is a tender subject, for one thing. Was your point worth risking provocation?

@cabassi That was my initial read too, but I read it like six times and can’t imagine John being so insensitive to the murders of Black and brown people that he’d make that comparison and deem these worse… but a comparison was made, but there’s no “more” or “less” outrageous murders by government agents. I would support removing the comparative conclusion….

@Jmccray @JasonAnthonyGuy @cabassi @daringfireball @gruber Totally agree. The comparative statement is unnecessary to make the point that Cook’s response is different, and only has the potential to offend. All of these murders are outrageous and disgusting. No need to rank them.

@connor @Jmccray @JasonAnthonyGuy @cabassi My point isn't that any murder is more outrageous than another but the overall situation is more outrageous when it's perpetrated by an occupying force of masked federal agents in military attire. And to have one occur a week after the previous one is an escalation. Imagine if someone else had been killed by the same cops a week after George Floyd.

@gruber Agreed about the “occupying force"—the killers, not the killed; the language in the piece implies it's about those killed.

Perhaps a rephrasing to make your intent more clear?

As for timing:

- Ahmaud Arbery, Feb 23
- Breonna Taylor, Mar 13
- Floyd, May 25
- Tony McDade, May 27
- Rayshard Brooks, June 12

This is on top of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, Freddie Gray, Philando Castile, Alton Sterling (2014-2016).

We've felt this dread for years.
