Holy fucking shit now it’s picking up flights above Tocumwal on the Vic-NSW border, and one almost at Devonport (Tasmania). That’s got to be over 200N.Mi?!
Uh, also picking up QFA7318, currently between Deniliquin and Hay, NSW. Fucking hell this thing has some legs on it!
@jpm I have a non amplified antenna mounted uh... on my floor... inside... and get max range of around 35NM so yeah no surprise the roof mount absolutely whips.
@akent yeah, with the bundled TV antenna (ie not designed to pick up ADS-B) inside I was getting max 30N.Mi, with the amplified antenna inside it was reaching 60N.Mi, now outside in the air it’s likely over 200.
@akent I did not expect that much improvement. Sticking it on the coat hanger instead of directly on the roof brought it from about 150N.Mi to over 200.

@jpm What's the antenna + SDR you're using? I've been thinking about dabbling in this stuff but every time I do I start reading and then decision paralysis sets in...
@fwaggle SDR is whatever the hell this thing is, it’s literally a TV tuner and came with an IR remote in the box, and works with rtl_sdr.
@jpm Cheers, can tell it's a good one because of how much it looks like a pipe bomb
