@TheBreadmonkey Australian remake called Oldmate when?
@TheBreadmonkey Although harrowing is a good word for it, it's one of my favorite films*... right until the octopus.
*I've only seen the original.
Read that he's a vegetarian and did a bunch of takes, eating an actual live octopus and praying before each take. Yeuch.
@TheBreadmonkey I read that, too, after I'd seen it a couple of times.
Maybe favorite is the wrong word.
I saw someone say this recently, and I only watched it for the first time not that long ago and was only a bit taken back. I liked it. Maybe I'm desensitized.
I found it surprising and interesting but not harrowing. Maybe I've shut stuff out.
I saw Requiem for a Dream, years ago, and remember I don't want to go back, but not much more. I do remember the pretty much last scene was grim but have blocked the details out.
Don't mean to be a film nob but did you watch the Korean or remake?
I'm not that up to date so didn't even register a remake. Oh god, why would you?
Let's remake Pans Labyrinth in American, set in Vietnam...
@TheBreadmonkey @TwoClownsEating the Korean version is extraordinary. I’ve never felt the need to watch the remake. What’s the name of that Malaysian film they keep wanting to remake? The Block? Same thing.
If you mean The Raid, the Indonesian film then that is one of my favourite films of all time! The Raid 2 possibly even better.
@TheBreadmonkey @TwoClownsEating the Karl Urban Dredd film riffs on it a bit.
I know there's a lot of hate for that film but I'm afraid I also love that for that exact reason. What this says about me is unclear. I'm apparently really into violent death in dystopian tower block settings. Bit niche.
Great. Cheers mate. I'm supposed to be going to bed and now I've put The Raid 2 on. My only hope is that my brain will somehow allow me to pause it and go to bed at some point. Which as we all know is unlikely. Instead I'll be up until 2 and then go to bed doing pencak silat moves and will wake Trish up and she'll be furious.
The Korean one.
THEN YOU ARE A MONSTER
Only messing. You big monster. Maybe I'm overly sensitive. Maybe it's fine and I should get over myself. Have you seen Kill List? You probably think that's fine too. You big monster.
I had it on my list but actually I don't think I have seen Kill List. I like Ben Wheatley so it's weird I haven't. A field in England by him is odd but I liked it.
Dead man's shoes is one of my favourite films and I like Shane Meadows generally. It's like a gritty Mike Leigh film crossed with US mafia movies, compelling.
Pans labyrinth is a top tier recommendation, I assume you've seen it but if not, definitely do.
Generally anything disturbing I veer from these days. The ballad of Wallis Island was my favourite film of 2025. If you've not seen it, highly recommended. Gentle and lovely, a Sunday night film if ever there was one. Weirdly, 2 days after seeing it, I literally (very nearly) bumped into its star and creator, Tim Key, at the airport.
@TheBreadmonkey @TwoClownsEating
Oooh, what sort of monster?
