“zzt how dare you accuse Mozilla employees of suffering from incredibly obvious LLM psychosis”

please “enjoy” the State of Mozilla, one of the least hinged things I’ve seen released with apparent pride by an established corporation: https://stateof.mozilla.org/

note the 2001-style not-Flash intro. the fake captcha. the timecube-esque prattle about AI threatening humanity. “DO NOT ACCEPT DEFAULT SETTINGS”. the ASCII art cop finger in the footer of the main page. all of it. what in fuck is this.

@promovicz mozilla has found the second, secret bottom of the barrel hidden under the first bottom of the barrel

and they used the slop contained within to generate the State of Mozilla!

@hawyer what, you don’t like open source* LLMs?

* extremely thin open source wrappers around binary blobs provably based on a leaked proprietary model which was itself based on plagiarized and pirated text, images, and videos sourced by unethically scraping the web in the most destructive manner ever devised**

** when convenient mozilla ignores this definition and pretends we’re talking about Firefox’s subpar pre-LLM translation feature that should itself probably be a plugin

@lunareclipse @zzt Well you see, firefox corporate drones get firmware updates the same way the Timex DataLink watch did in the 90s. Flashing lights.

@jordan @semievolved @zzt don't forget the incoming "focus on y" by the AI lab,

Increasingly, open source AI is just as good as closed options — but remains harder for developers to use. Mozilla.ai is a dedicated R+D lab and startup designed to change this. In 2025, the team focused on building an initial set of ‘choice first’ developer tools including the Apache-licensed libraries any-llm, any-agent and any-guardrail. They also welcomed well known AI researcher and entrepreneur John Dickerson as their new CEO.. In 2026, the team will focus on y.

firefox users: please make the LLM features in firefox a non-default plugin, opt-in, or better yet don’t do them at all

mozilla: DO NOT ACCEPT DEFAULT SETTINGS. slop is destroying the web! *posts a bunch of slop videos and text in an annual corporate update*

mozilla staff: we asked our community and they hallucinated that they don’t like AI even though we prompted them to not hallucinate.

mozilla’s remaining fan: why are you so angry at my best friend mozilla. stop being unreasonable.

@zzt OMG

"AI isn’t just another tech trend — it’s at the heart of most apps, tools and technology we use today."
Literally not a single tool I use requires it, nor would I use it if it was forced into it.

"It enables remarkable things: new ways to create and collaborate and communicate."
No, it lies and doesn't help create anything. It is by design reactive.

"But AI is also letting us down"
You got me* there, Mozilla.

Edit: *some people. My expectations for AI max out at zero, and the harms are large. So I'm speaking generally.

@zzt Hmm... I'm gonna be honest here. I like the "Doing for AI what we did for the web" title.

I mean, Mozilla was so inept that it surrendered the Web to Google and Chrome, and contributed to destroying it. Now if they do the same with AI, and contribute to destroying it, now that's a goal I could stand behind.

Unfortunately, that is unlikely what they want to do, but I did not dare read further than the title yet.
