@tante Yep. Similar to the argument in _Fossil Capital_ that coal won out over hydropower in the 19th century despite being way costlier. It allowed for tighter control of the abundant labor in cities, whereas hydropower put you at the mercy of the specific, scarce workers who happened to be near the water source.
