By the way, I'm flying from Seoul to Brussels tomorrow to attend FOSDEM 2026. It's my first trip to Europe, so I'm both excited and nervous.

@hongminhee Welcome to Europe and thanks for making this long trip. I would be keen to meet you!
@mellifluousbox Thanks for welcoming me! Would you attend this FOSDEM?
@hongminhee Yes! I'm already in town. See you in the dev room or at the Mastodon table in the F building?
@mellifluousbox Okay, so let's meet tomorrow!
@hongminhee safe travels!
Looking forward to your talk btw
@django Thanks! Are you attending this FOSDEM?
@hongminhee yes, I’ll be giving a short talk about the Client to Server protocol 😉
@django Great! I'm looking forward to your talk!
@hongminhee Hi! I would love to meet you!
@catilac Are you attending FOSDEM too? We could hang out there then!
@hongminhee I am I am! I'll be speaking on the education track, too!
@catilac @hongminhee I wanna meet up with both of you!
@hongminhee Hope you'll enjoy!
I just looked up what kind of plugs they use in Belgium and Germany. Luckily, it looks like they use Type F “Schuko” plugs, the same kind we use in South Korea!
Just arrived in Abu Dhabi. First time in the Middle East.
The Coca-Cola I bought at Abu Dhabi Airport tastes... slightly different from the ones I used to drink in Korea.
@hongminhee The Fantas are also notoriously different, even in different parts of the EU - there's a wildly different g/L of sugar in them for starters (and neither are radioactive-orange coloured like the US ones)
It's actually kinda fun to try the different countries' Coca-Cola drinks.
Just arrived at Brussels International Airport! It was long trip…
My companion almost got pickpocketed twice in front of Brussels Central Station.
I was so tired I slept for over 20 hours. 😂
Just walked into a cafe in Brussels and saw this sign. It instantly made me feel safe and welcomed.
By the way, whenever I'm in the West, my confidence in my English speaking really takes a hit. I have a hard time understanding people if they speak even a little bit fast, and I feel like communication is a struggle because my own accent is so strong. 😩
It's really interesting to see news about the fediverse on the TV!
It was really fun to talk with @liaizon about so many things like… anarchism and punk in the States, socialism vs. liberalism in Korea, and so on…
By the way, if you're attending #FOSDEM 2026 and are interested in #Fedify, an #ActivityPub server framework, please consider checking out my talk in the Social Web Room tomorrow.
Today I met a lot of nice people on the fediverse in person! It was really nice to meet you all!
I overslept. Looks like I'll have to grab some brunch real quick and head to ULB.
Thanks all for listening to my talk about #Fedify at #FOSDEM 2026 today! Here's my deck for the talk: Fedify: Building ActivityPub servers without the pain.
Wasn't aware of FEP-8a8e (A common approach to using the Event object type)!
So… the first day of #FOSDEM 2026 was so inspiring, and it really motivated to build more things for #ActivityPub and the #fediverse! Also it was a lot of fun to meet hundreds of kind and smart people!
It's definitely worth taking a 20-hour flight! 🥰
Waiting for my flight to Berlin at Brussels Airport now.
Just arrived in Berlin Brandenburg Airport!
Just arrived at the Airbnb.
The internet at this place is ridiculously slow. 😩
It's super cold in Berlin right now, so instead of going out to a restaurant, @2chanhaeng and I just ordered tacos to our place through Uber Eats.
@hongminhee maybe they use a different sweetener, anyone knows if high fructose syrup is used in the middle east?
@hongminhee Some Coke are made with cane sugar while others are with corn syrup. Might that be the cause of the difference?
@zundan Yeah, maybe? This Coca-Cola had a bit more of a tangy taste.
@hongminhee have a good layover. It's a very strange place to be!
@hongminhee I’ve been in Korea for the first time last Dezember. Such a lovely place… I miss the food a lot and functional public transport a lot.. 😅
Re Europe: yes, we are very open and very direct. We are respectful but sometimes pretty blunt, especially when it comes to “who messed up?”. Yes, we are very quick to assign blame at the cost of inducing shame. Don’t take it personal and remember it goes both ways.
Recognizing things are different def helped me calibrate my compass on my travel
@cryptix Thanks for the advice for a first-time traveller to Europe!
@hongminhee
Yes, it is the same across Europe and I was happy to see this when I was travelling in South Korea.
