@stefan good to note that masto host is not US based which might be a benefit for some.
@stefan I agree 💯 percent. As a student of human behavior, it's very difficult to get humans to change from known but bad habits to unknown habits but we have to try. Next time you see family or friends who still use the bird site, explain how bad it is for society and, if they still won't change, beat the crap out of them!
Feel free to share, copy, rewrite, etc. Feedback is more than welcome, but please note that the target audience are community organizers, who may not need or care about full technical details.
As a local Indivisible group leader, I'd suggest even less technical info. The majority of my peers run away screaming at the slightest whiff of tech speak.
@mastodonmigration and I took an unsuccessful run at Indivisible National a while back, they're beyond overloaded with minute by minute developments and supporting local groups with their existing stack of EveryAction and Mobilize.
They and others are investigating alternatives to both of those due to concerns with ...
the owners, so maybe there will be an opening for us in there someplace.
Meanwhile, I doubt more than a very few number of individual organizers would consider spinning up a server.
I think it would make more sense to focus on reasons to create a presence on Mastodon and other Fediverse options and invite their circles of activists to join them.
It certainly would be good if someone here were to set up a server explicitly for organizers to sign up on.
All that said, time has a way of bending things into shape. The reasons why it would have been a good idea for @indivisibleteam to spin up their own Mastodon/Fediverse server six months ago are doubly true now.
Organizations (and politicians, for that matter) need to come to the understanding that taking hold of their own social media communications is critical.
Their opposition certainly understands this very well.
Maybe now is the time... 🙋♂️
@joeinwynnewood Thank you so much for reading this!
Definitely good points, I will give this all some more thought.
Thank you!
@stefan Thanks for adding Fedica to the list :-)
