They already knew they had too few snowplows. They already knew too many of them had broken down. They did nothing.
This isn't the storm of the century. It wasn't unpredictable. We had a bigger storm 16 years ago.
There's no excuse.
The road in front of my house has been plowed once since the storm started. I live by a hospital; ambulances use the road. Saw an ambulance go by with its siren on a little while ago, at about 15 MPH making a really loud noise from snow or something caught in the undercarriage.
People will die from the government's failures, as surely as if they'd been murdered.
Meanwhile, our elections aren't competitive, because the local parties are the same as the state and national parties, so both are well to the right of the electorate. Which means it's almost pointless to even vote in the general election. But the primaries have low turnout and those who do vote tend to be old, so we end up with right-wing Democrats.
The city and the county need their own parties. States need their own parties. Time to kick the national parties to the curb.
@freakazoid you point out that the young aren’t represented in primaries, so the obvious thing for them to do is to show up and to run.
@billclawson And it looks like that's happening. I guess we'll see if it's anywhere near enough.
