@inquiline Is that a baby donkey (is there a term for those?)? Because the size difference seems very extreme. Though maybe I just have a mistaken idea of camel sizes in my head.
foal, i believe! i wondered that too. some foals i've seen have a more obviously "baby" proportion, like bambi, so i'm not sure. maybe the real donkey folks can weigh in
*there are also mini donkeys but idk if there were in the 19th c. many mysteries
@inquiline I wonder if there is or was a painting with these critters in the background. I think this looks like an artist was doing a grid enlargement or a precise copy, but they either were very confident about their ability to draw the legs of these animals or were intending something to overlap them. Also unclear if they were only interested in the camel and not the donkey.
