Browsing AliExpress for outdoor rated addressable LEDs. Really not sure on which vendors to trust though.

Current plan is for a DIN rail mounted esp32 / wled controller and 24v psu. So I can put it under the house close to the outer walls but still have decent cable distances.

@haakon in my experience the encased-in-flexible-resin strips quickly succumb to overheating and lose brightness. I’ve switched to silicone-sleeve kind.

@Unixbigot @haakon every LED strip needs a diffuser

@Unixbigot @haakon we had a professional lightologist install ours, she used an adhesive aluminum trench with a translucent plastic diffuser, and stuck an un-rated adhesive strip inside that. It looks fantastic!

The problem with addressable strips is that the LEDs inside are 5V, and any strips that can handle higher voltage than that will contain power supplies to convert 12V or 24V back to 5V (meaning extra heat)

@jpm @Unixbigot the 24v ones I we’re looking at did the addressing in blocks of leds wired up in series to handle thr 24v.
