@retrocomputing Of course but.. if you had one last chance?
@cubicgarden Quite a big difference between “a last post after six months of illness” and “a last post when I suddenly dropped dead”. The former wouldn’t come as a surprise; the latter certainly would. I’d worry that anything I wrote would look weird.
After a death in the podcast community last year, I wrote this thing - https://podnews.net/article/digital-legacy - which may (but probably won’t) be of interest.
@james Thanks this is exactly the kind of thing which doesn't get enough attention.
The UK gov, really pushed hard for people to have will's in the UK and with it comes a letter of wishes.
All good advice, but imagine if when you die, the last podcast could be posted with a suitable goodbye? That would be really fascinating and deeply meaningful?
Lots to think about and its a really good usecase - Thanks!
@cubicgarden looking forward to seeing your talk 😀
@cubicgarden I'd rather do something for the Fediverse while I'm still here :)
@retrocomputing Of course but.. if you had one last chance?
@cubicgarden Then it would be a donation, as far as I'm concerned.
Anything else would look quite self-centered to me, borderline creepy if involving posthumous messages or the like..
@cubicgarden Interesting question!
I like the idea of posting one last message, but I'd have to think about what it would say a bit more.
The way I try to use social media, other than posting about my own work, is to encourage and inspire people, spread hope, and share calls to action on things that are important to me.
So my last message would probably follow that, just one last reminder to stay hopeful about the future, and be there for the people who need us.
@stefan Thanks, its one I think about too.
Likewise, what I would post is a difficult one. I also have a final blog post which I have setup, which would go out on the fediverse too,
I do like the final words of hope
@cubicgarden My additional challenge is that I run my own Mastodon server. So, once I'm gone, and my credit card expires, I'm taking everything with me.
@cubicgarden Interesting idea! I'll give this some thought, thank you!
