Carney critiques the current global order but offers only a hardened neoliberalism as an alternative. @yogthos he's literally a global banker, why would you ever expect better than Hillary of him? Also third order blocs always fail, look at India and the Third World in the Cold War. Being Nuclear armed, India gets less as a third block than Israel, and granted, there's a LOT of pedophilia blackmail and Jewish supremacy and "the end of history" that goes into that, but... There's no world in which a diverse coalition of nations ACTUALLY takes on super powers like Star Trek makes us wish.

"Carney is clear eyed and honest enough to recognize the hypocrisy of the old system.. He’s not a left winger. He’s not a post war liberal. He’s a neoliberal technocrat, and the job of neoliberal technocrats is to keep making the rich richer..like most politicians and senior technocrats in our system, is a concierge for the rich. His job is to make them better off. They don’t want to be annexed by the US or to have to live in fear of a fickle US changing deals at a whim. But they still want to be super rich.

@pinhman @yogthos all that is true, but what he said in front of the world is more biting and incisive than anything neoliberals have said in forever, and this is why we are being reminded so often of his neoliberal values.
Still, he said something that was more of a condemnation of the neoliberal world order than any neoliberal has. We have to capture that moment, remind neoliberals and fascists of it.

@dan613 @milkman76 @pinhman Carney's whole speech is about preserving the neoliberal order without the US. He's thesis is that western liberalism thrived under the US umbrella, and now that it's gone, western countries need to band together to preserve this system of relations going forward.

@yogthos @dan613 @pinhman this is well understood. But again, I honed in on his catastrophic condemnation of that order, which stands out among his peers, regardless. You know things are getting serious for the neoliberals when they begin to admit truths some of us have put a lot of energy into getting others to listen to for decades. (Im not a Carney supporter, im a fan of Neoliberalism blacking its own eyes out)

@yogthos Davos is about trade. It doesn't matter what your country's political philosophy is, it still needs to trade for things it doesn't have itself.
@dan613 the article discusses Carney's speech at the WEF, which was very much about continuing the liberal world order without the US.
Carney essentially said that everyone in the West went along American hegemony opened up markets and sea lanes for them. It was never about any principles like human rights.
