@farah @flowerpot Women are taught by a sick society that we are being paranoid, when we choose to trust our gut intuition. It took me a long time to realize that every time that I allowed others to talk me out of listening/heeding my gut intuition - it resulted in bad shit. When I trust my gut intuition, things work out better. I hope you learn to trust your gut intuition much more & make it your best friend ❤️

For me, it's why if you are as clued in, as you believe yourself to be, would you call yourself permaculture. When I finally understood how appropriative the permaculture movement had been and that they were now charging for membership, I was out. Good principles + bad practices still sucks. It's why I never got a permaculture certification.
@RobotDiver There's places here that charge over $5K for permsculture certification/education. When I've learned more for free, directly from helping out small agroecology farmers in the field.
Yeah, once I found that out I decided there was no way a couple of old white guys were gonna gatekeep knowledge like that
@RobotDiver @PhoenixSerenity I've been interested in permaculture for years but the white dudes and big money to get "certified"... yeah, that's the opposite of what a food forest is all about imho.

I started with planting native food trees on my farm 40 years ago. The family farm was planted continually targeting a divers natural N Mn eco system 60 yrs ago. Both are now self sustaining and replicating with a diversity of plant and animal life that can easily be carefully harvested without damaging their health. The family farm was accepted into the MN sustainable forest program last year.
You don't need some fancy expensive program to plant. Get on line, figure out what food species are native or may be native in the future in your area, plant many because some will survive on one plot but not on tbe next. Mice will devastate your first years plantings if you dont wrap the little trunks and encourage coyotes, foxes, snakes, and hawks. Accept it will take time for a sustainable balance. Let the weeds grow, they support lots of tiny needed creatures. You will also be amazed what old seed is still in your soil and will suddenly appear after ground cover is reestablished after 5-10 years. Trees are wise and leave their seeds to return when conditions improve. I just realized a fairly new stand of black oak had started up on the edge of one of my fields after 25 years. I've never planted it before. Recovering your land takes love, patience, and lots of tedious work with a shovel. But it will eventually return your care if you embrace it.

@farah @PhoenixSerenity I'm not making any judgements about her as a person or if she's a "real" activist, it's not my area of expertise, but here's my vibes: At one point she talked about how she was stressed out about having to put out so many videos and discuss current events so fast, while also juggling the kids and whatever else she was doing (community events, a protest)... And the image that left me with was a whole lot of: "Oh shit, people liked some of my videos so much they're watching a lot of them, that's a lot of money, I guess I'm making as many of these as I can until it stops making bread, would be stupid not to..."
Like. There's only one thing she's said in her videos (I'm not a follower, it keeps getting recommended to me) that I starkly disagreed with, so it's not like it's bad info necessarily. Just not uniquely hers, because there's no way it can all be!
@PhoenixSerenity I get the same "ick" feeling from her. I kept my mouth shut because I try to save my dunking for the overt "hate merchants" and I want to believe she is trying to help. But yeah, there are MUCH better voices to listen to during these times.
@flowerpot Samesies. I listen to BIPOC voices & some white comrades who are fully committed to boots on ground actions/longtime volunteers actively helping resistance actions (coordinating supplies runs/comms support/calling around to obtain supply donations/etc).
@PhoenixSerenity Yep. And these BIPOC voices are usually steeped in academic scholarship and jurisprudence, delivered with modesty.
EDIT: NOT someone who feels self-important as if they have a unique & enlightened perspective that assumes the audience is ignorant.
@flowerpot @PhoenixSerenity People with trauma tend to do that. They oversell, so others would believe them. I can relate to it so much
