@catavz @stefano @seiz I know, I know, my M1 Max Mac Studio give me joy, yet… for reasons explained in a previous post of mine, I’m wondering if this little paradise of mine is made to last in regards of US politics. Of course this M5 chip is tempting to the hell… but… when the transatlantic cables will be off and iCloud a not trustable service anymore, we might be stuck (would we still be apple to login with our accounts ?). With a lunatic having Apple’s ear brain and hands, and hating Europe this much, I am afraid of a complete lockdown of our apple machines. So I’m torn…

@stefano I remember receiving my MacBook Air M1, these days I was sick in bed and it was incredible to me being able to use the computer 10+ hours without going for the socket.

I use a MacBook Pro M4 (plain). It is an awesome machine. The nano texture screen is the icing on the cake and a much bigger deal as initially thought. I couldn’t go back to another screen. Now waiting for a more affordable desktop screen with nano texture.
@seiz I’m sure it is. This is by far the best laptop I’ve ever had. It never disappointed me. Other Apple machines have been much worse (like the last Intel MBP, which I still have but sits unused in a box). A Mac Mini could be a good companion, too, and it’s now quite cheap (599 euros for the 16/256, which is enough for me), but this could also mean that the M5 is just around the corner.
I'll join the provocation too. I use an M4 Pro, which is excellent hardware-wise. I can also use any virtual machines I want with UTM and Multipass. Plus, with Brew, it has software support as extensive as a standard Linux machine.

@stefano PS: if you want to get a Mac, searching the Apple website for „refurbrished“ is a nice option for cheaper prices on quasi new hardware.
@stefano I wouldn‘t think about anything around the corner. IMO, current Silicon is absolutely fast enough for my needs.
I also have an M2 Pro Mac Mini which is as awesome as the laptop.

It's the best apple machine I have owned since the original intel Macbook,.
My only complaint is they went back to shitty cables without stress relief, and after a few years the power cable is starting to fray.
@riffraff Yes, it's a great machine. In the last few days, I've plugged it to my Dell monitor and I'm using it as a desktop. It's being great.
@stefano I’ve been tempted to purchase an m series Mac after being a diehard thinkpad/linux user, solely for the promise of a life where I’m not constantly thinking where a power outlet is
@waffles I can confirm this is one of the reasons why I bring my good old MacBook Pro to the conferences. It's four years old, I've intensely used it, and I can still use it the entire day without needing a power outlet.
