Dear Alexandra Geese and Veronika Cifrová Ostrihoňová,
Thank you for your strong and timely letter addressing the ongoing crisis on X.
Your assessment is clear: X is no longer a safe, open or balanced platform for democratic debate. Your arguments closely align with those set out in our Open Letter to All European Politicians and Leaders to Abandon X/Twitter, which was published over a year ago and has been endorsed by more than three thousand people across Europe.
In your letter, you rightly identify two structural problems that prevent millions of Europeans from leaving X: the perceived lack of viable alternatives and the absence of simple, user-friendly portability mechanisms. I would like to draw your attention to two concrete solutions that already exist and can be adopted immediately.
I have summarised these below, including the European Commission’s official Mastodon infrastructure and an existing, research-based portability solution.

We still have nearly 60% of Members of the European Parliament are still active on X. I hope these solutions will support your efforts and help turn the current momentum into concrete action.
With kind regards,
Everton Zanella Alvarenga
