Okay, I'm rusty on winter/snow/ice storm prep (being in SoCal, and having grown up with my parents dealing with snow). I don't have to deal with it, but a kid does (in DC/VA)..

So far I have:

1. Gas up the car
2. Have enough food that you don't have to go shopping for a week, can prepare if there is no power, and water. (ie like a hurricane, but cold?)
3. Make sure to have an ice scraper and maybe a car lock de-icer
4. If you HAVE to make sure to get somewhere, sand for the car (probably not the case here)
5. Warm winter clothing, also so you can wear it inside if power goes out/no heat. Blankets, layers, etc. etc.

Anything I missed or got wrong? Favorite "prep" websites?

@ai6yr

A tent. Set it up in the living room.

If your pipes burst, you can sleep inside the tent to conserve body heat. Cover with quilts etc.

Actually, if you are concerned about pipes freezing, leave a few faucets (end of the plumbing lines if you can figure that out) open a little bit.

Even a small flow through the pipes will stop them from freezing.
