In reality it was mostly due to threat of Putin. Expenditure is higher the closer the country is to Russia or Belarus.

ukraine as of now has serious issues going on because of cold winter, people might DIE because of coldness and lack of heating. and of course war. maybe trump engages this greenland thing, so canada and europe focuses on greenland militarily and neglects ukraine. almost perfect help for putin.
