"I want to establish a wide range and play all kinds of parts. It's that sort of acting career I really respect. I like to turn a sharp left from whatever I've done before because that keeps me awake. That's why I want to be an actor - I don't want to play endless variations on one character."

@davidaugust An old friend of mine has had a long career as a character actor on films and TV. His name is not well known but his face would be instantly recognizable to almost anyone of a certain age range. He started quite young and as he got older aged into older roles quite smoothly. While he played all kinds of roles, he was most associated with, well,
evil characters of one sort or another. This was great fun for him. When I'd go out to eat with him, you'd see people at other tables pointing at our table/booth and mumbling to each other. It was clear they recognized him but couldn't place him specifically. I was always quite amused.
