In a rare bright spot for consumers, I learned today that bookshop.org is working with #Kobo to get first party support for ebooks purchased from bookshop.org. You’d no longer have to choose between using your eReader or supporting your local book store! As someone who has greatly preferred reading on an eReader this is very exciting for me, as I have always felt a little bad for not supporting local #bookshops with my reading purchases.

@derekheld You can connect your Kobo account to your local bookstore, so that they get a cut of your purchase when you buy from the Kobo ebook store.
@jsit I think I found a page on indiebound.org talking about this but I am no sure it’s an active program anymore. It looks like it was part of the affiliate program and the link is dead. Plus from the description sounds like it was only possible during account sign up.
@derekheld Yeah, it was mostly done via account signup. It’s possible to link your local bookshop to your Kobo account after creation, but this is difficult: your bookshop has to know their affiliate ID, and you have to reach a human at Kobo who knows how to add this to your account.
