Hey #SurveyMethods and #MedEd folks:
In a workshop for #MedSchool faculty about questionnaire design and survey research methods, what
- objectives should be prioritized?
- materials are out there?
- activities are worth it?
- assessments work?

@ByrdNick it might be worth looking into the “stereotype threat” — the idea that asking demographic questions at the beginning of a test, or having a survey administrator with differing demographics, can sometimes negatively impact the performance of the minority ethnicity or gender. Some research supports this and other research finds no significant difference though, not sure if there is a meta-analysis out there because it’s been observed in everything from sports to math tests
Thanks, @janeadams
I do think there are doubts about stereotype threat (many people tell me about null results that are still in their file drawers).
Nonetheless, your point could be valid sociologically: if you want to appease colleagues and reviewers who buy into stereotype threat, then that probably does have implications for survey design.
Thanks again!
