Here’s an opposite of yesterday’s #Sunrise photo. This is Black Butte rising out of the cloud inversion. I just made a failed attempt to summit Sand Mountain. I turned around after almost getting stuck in a snow drift. My dream goal would be to climb Hayrick Butte. I doubt I can, but I’m going to go take a closer look at it.

Black Butte rises above a dense layer of low clouds at sunrise. The sky glows in soft gradients of orange and gold, silhouetting the peak. Snow-dusted ridgelines and dark evergreen forests frame the foreground.

Someone kicked steps up to the summit of Peak 5440 next door so I redeemed myself. Beautiful views from up here.

A view of Mount Jefferson and Three Fingered Jack from an unnamed mountain. Snow peeks through the trees in the valley floor. The mountains are covered in white snow. Light blue skies.
