Are you comfortable making a reader uncomfortable? How far will you go?

See "Equoid" (a novella about unicorns which, I am told, ruined "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" *forever*).

I don't write cozies: I'm pretty sure anyone picking up a Charlie Stross story knows this by now.

@cstross I’ve been following you for a bit and enjoy you immensely. I haven’t read any of your books though. I’m an audio reader and I did find several available. Very cool and I have a hold on the book Atrocity Archives. Found you on Libby but not hoopla. Any idea why not hoopla? Is it a publishing thing? Just curious. How many books do you have in audio format? Where can I find them that you’d recommend? I see that libro fm has over 30 titles but libraries are cheaper, do you get paid by libraries in some way? Also can you share a little bit on that process of getting your books to audio? Understood if that’s just work for you too!! But I’m curious.

@chancegardener I have no idea what hoopla is and I have no idea how many of my books are available in audio—you'd also have to tell me what country you live in (audio rights are region-locked). I do *not* get paid by American libraries, beyond the initial sale; only by those in the UK and Ireland.

@cstross Nothing cosy about Quantum of Nightmares, or a certain maternity ward.

@cstross But if you *did*, it would throw us all for a loop. I never expected you to write a romance novel either.

@cstross Personally, I thought Equoid was sweet. But then, I spotted what you were riffing off pretty early in the book.

@cstross

I thought Equoid was rather tame... compared to that cat from all those years ago... that git was damn scary.
