Gaming people, especially chronically ill gaming people, how light is the SteamDeck?

Cos my thinking was that I could game lying down in bed easily with my controller if the fucking window would stay open (cont later).

Whereas if I'm reading or knitting or other stuff like that I'm sat up and lean forward and don't rest my neck.

I'm the same with my phone - can't lie down with it. So I'm thinking a SteamDeck might be the same issue.

@alexisbushnell steam deck is around 650g / 1.5 pounds. You would probably want something to prop it up and keep the vent clear instead of holding it directly in your hands.

@alexisbushnell it's quite a bit bigger and heavier than a Nintendo Switch, if you've used one of those. I get hand pains from using it (between holding up the weight and using my thumbs so much), especially if I'm playing lying down; and I plan to get a separate Bluetooth pro controller for it, since those are lighter and more ergonomic.

That's my experience, anyway.

@giflian I haven't used any console since I had a GameBoy Colour as a teen.

Damn it seems like it would be too heavy and not practical for gaming lying down then.

Thanks

@alexisbushnell @giflian Lying down flat and holding it up in the air the issue is going to be dead arms more than the weight. I used to use mine whilst sat up against the headboard, with it leaning on my lap.

It may be slightly heavier than the Switch, it is a lot more comfortable to hold. It reminds me of the Wii U controller in many ways.

@gavin57 @giflian I've not used any games consoles but even sitting up is what I'm trying to avoid. I need to be able to be horizontal and resting my neck flat.

Seems like it might not be worth it for me

@alexisbushnell If you are ok with Nintendo and can find a way to mount the console where you can see it lying down (some kind of boom arm), you can detach the Switch controllers and hold them down by your sides.

Similarly, the Lenovo Legion Go works on the same principle, but is much more expensive.

@gavin57 I don't think I'd play any/enough Nintendo games to make it worthwhile.

I'm not a gamer at all and am only looking to try to get into it to engage my monotropoism to try to rest. So I'm looking to just play Zeus/Poseidon, Stardew Valley, maybe Civ, maybe that Disney game.

Last night I tried to game (the last time I played was June... I am not a gamer) & the game window wouldn't stay open. It kept minimising.

I tried turning off the Discord overlay. No change.

I have no idea what else to try because, as mentioned, not a gamer.
It worked fine on this same laptop last time I played.

I had the same issue with both Zeus and Stardew Valley, so it's not a game specific issue.

Running both through Steam.

Help appreciated.

@TCMuffin fair shout! I will give that a go and hope it doesn't break the games I already have downloaded!
