A Baltimore checkerspot-- a black butterfly with many orange and white spots, including orange scallops on the trailing edges of the wings and orange knobs on the antenna-- perched on a plant with many globular clusters of small white flowers. The butterfly and flowers are in the lower half of the image, and in the upper half the background is more tall greenery, out of focus.
